Veterans of Foreign Wars
The VFW is a nonprofit veterans service organization comprised of eligible veterans and military service members from the active, Guard and Reserve forces. The VFW and its Auxiliary are dedicated to veterans service, legislative advocacy, and military and community service programs.
The VFW’s vital support programs include:
EDUCATE separating service members about their well-earned VA benefits through private benefits counseling sessions with a VFW Accredited Service Officer.
ADVOCATE for America’s veterans and their families on Capitol Hill, ensuring promises made to veterans are promises kept.
HELP cover rent, utilities or groceries for a military family struggling with the hardships of war.
DELIVER morale-boosting “welcome home” celebrations for service members who have returned from combat.
The local Cary VFW Post #7383 supports The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina and the Durham Veterans Administration Medical Center on a year-round basis. In addition, the Post maintains a fund for the purpose of assisting any honorably-discharged veteran who finds himself or herself in financial difficulty. This fund is replenished by automatic deductions from various Post accounts and by many fund-raising efforts throughout the year, but it never seems to be enough. Every little bit helps.
The local Cary Post #7383 provides support locally in the following ways:
VA Disability Claims - VFW’s post service officers assist veterans with filing disability claims and gaining access to VA support and benefits.
Relief Funds - VFW’s field requests and provide financial support for local Wake County veterans that are having hard times. VFW provides grants for those veterans that need short term financial assistance to get back on their feet.
Honor Guard - VFW has a group that travels all over performing military honors at funerals. They also perform honor guard duties at parades, sporting events, and other ceremonies.
Community Support - VFW assists other non-profits and organizations with donations, use of their event space, and volunteer opportunities. They host an annual awards dinner for first responders in the Cary/Apex area, provide space for youth groups to meet such as: The Scouts, Young Marines and in the past the Civil Air Patrol.
Scholarships - VFW have an annual youth scholarship writing contest for local middle and high schoolers.
Canteen - VFW’s canteen is open every day of the year (even Christmas day) to provide a hub for veterans to gather, share stories, and offer each other emotional support. Their mission is to create a welcoming environment where veterans can find a sense of belonging and a renewed purpose
Carolina Hurricanes Warriors
The Warrirors are a 100% volunteer organization with 6 board members and roughly 190 members throughout the state of North Carolina, with a second chapter started March 2024 in Charlotte. All fundraising and donations are fully put back into the program so that every dollar helps continue to grow their program, help pay for ice time and travel expenses incurred throughout the year.
They strive to provide an outlet and a way of giving back to the disabled veteran community who are looking for a way to reintegrate themselves back into the community after separating from the military. Carolina Hurricanes Warriors was founded in 2019 and received their 501c3 in May of 2019. They initially started out focusing mainly on ice hockey, holding weekly practices, charity games, and traveling to USA Hockey national tournaments twice a year.
Since then, they have expanded to holding fundraisers for other organizations such as the Hurricanes Sled Hockey, Triangle Special Hockey, Saint Baldricks Foundation, Holly Springs Food Bank, Toys for Tots, local learn to play and learn to skate, HPOC (Hockey players of Color), and wreaths across America.

Our Veterans. . .
Did you know that the US Department of Housing & Development estimates that on any given night there are approximately 40,000 homeless Veterans? Another 1.4 million Veterans are considered at risk for varying reasons including dismal living conditions.
Many veterans struggle to find work after they return home. People often join the military right out of high school. That is why they may not have the education that is necessary for many jobs.
Many veterans sustain injuries while they are in combat. Amputation, scars and disfigurement are some of the physical injuries that people may get while they are in combat. These physical handicaps can make it even more difficult to get a job. They can also cause self-esteem issues.
Depression and suicide rates are higher among people who have served in the military. The reason people do not get the help that they need is that there is a social stigma attached to it. The cost can also be a barrier that stops people from getting mental health treatment.
